Backyard Bourbon & 7
Sometimes the best cocktails are the simplest. You don't always need homemade syrups or a long list of ingredients to make a drink you'll want to enjoy again and again. A good bourbon, crisp 7UP, fresh lime, and a sprig of mint come together to create a light, refreshing cocktail that's perfect for relaxing on the patio or winding down after a long day. It's easy to make, refreshing, and lets the bourbon shine without overpowering it.
Ingredients
- 2 oz bourbon: I used Bulleit Bourbon but Evan Williams is great for a cheaper option(aka Evan & 7)
- 4–5 oz chilled 7UP
- Crushed ice
- Lime wheel, for garnish
- Fresh mint sprig for garnish
Instructions
- Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice.
- Pour in the bourbon.
- Top with chilled 7UP and gently stir.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and a fresh sprig of mint.
- Lightly clap the mint between your hands before adding it to the drink to release its aroma.
Tips
- Chill your 7UP before mixing so the drink stays colder and more refreshing.
- Crushed ice gives the cocktail a frosty, easy-drinking feel, but regular ice cubes work just as well.
- A squeeze of extra lime adds a little more brightness if you prefer a tangier drink.
- For the best aroma, place the mint garnish close to where you'll sip the cocktail.
This is one of those cocktails that proves simple doesn't mean boring. With just a handful of ingredients, you get a refreshing bourbon drink that's perfect for summer evenings, backyard cookouts, or anytime you want an easy cocktail without a lot of fuss.
