Tin Foil Asparagus

This Easy Tin Foil Asparagus is one of our favorite side dishes because it's simple, flavorful, and practically foolproof. The asparagus steams inside the foil while the olive oil, seasonings, and fresh lemon juice create a bright, savory flavor that pairs well with almost any grilled meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • Garlic salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Onion powder, to taste
  • Olive oil spray
  • (Optional) juice from 1/2 a lemon and/or parmesan cheese

Equipment

  • Charcoal grill like a Weber Jumbo Joe, Weber Go-Anywhere Grill, or Kamado-style grill
  • Aluminum foil

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F.

  2. Snap or trim the woody ends off the asparagus and discard them.

  3. Place the asparagus on a large sheet of aluminum foil and lightly spray with olive oil.

  4. Season evenly with garlic salt, onion powder, and ground black pepper. 

  5. Fold the foil over the asparagus and seal the edges to create a packet.

  6. Place the foil packet on the grill (or in the oven) and cook for approximately 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the asparagus. Thicker spears may need a few extra minutes.

  7. Carefully open the foil packet, as steam will escape, and serve immediately.

Tips & Information

  • Thin asparagus cooks quickly and may only need 10-12 minutes.
  • For extra flavor, finish with a little grated Parmesan cheese or an additional squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
  • Wrapping the asparagus in foil keeps it tender while preventing it from falling through the grill grates.
  • This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated until you're ready to grill.
