Tanx 2-Bike Hitch Rack Review
Tanx 2-Bike Hitch Rack Review: A Budget Rack That Handles E-Bikes, Fat Bikes, and Mountain Bikes
I bought the Tanx 2-bike tilting platform rack in February 2025, and after 10 months of real use, it's performed great with no issues, just a couple minor things that could be improved. It runs about a third of the price of many name-brand racks, and it hasn't felt like a compromise.

What I've Hauled
- Aventon e-bikes(about 50 pounds each)
- A Gravity Bullseye Monster fat bike
- A Giant Trance X mountain bike
Fat tires, e-bike weight, and a full-suspension trail bike all fit and rode securely, with no fit problems on any of them. My mountain bike is noticeably longer than the other bikes and it still fits great.
The Road Trip Test
The real test was a road trip from St. Augustine Beach, Florida, to Brevard, North Carolina, and back. That's 1000 miles of interstate and mountain roads, and the bikes stayed put the whole way with very minimal to no wobble or shifting.
Tailgate Access With an F-150
The tilting design lets me fold the rack down and still open the tailgate on my F-150. That's a big deal for anyone with a truck, since many racks block it entirely. That is a big reason why I chose this rack over others. When the rack is empty or there is one bike on the outside of the rack it is very easy to open the tailgate. If there is a bike on the inside of the rack or there are two bikes on, it is possible to open the tailgate but you have to lower the rack to the lowest, tilted position. It is not easy to do by yourself but doable with a helper.
Price
It fits a 2-inch receiver and currently sells for around $230. Many comparable name-brand racks cost several times that.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Fits e-bikes, fat bikes, and standard mountain bikes
- Really easy and quick to load and unload bikes from rack
- Tilts down so the tailgate still opens
- Held up on a long road trip
- Much cheaper than name brands
- Took under an hour to assemble and all the tools were included
Cons
- Not really a con, but it would be nice if it included a heavy duty lock to lock the bikes to the rack. The rack does lock to the hitch though, so you just need to provide your own lock to secure the bike if you are concerned with theft.
- Would also be nice if the rack folded up small for storage but it's not too bad. Most bike racks have the same issue.
- The lever can stick sometimes, which can be annoying. If it does stick I can always resolve it pretty quickly and a little lubricant would most likely help it from sticking.
- When securing the bikes to the rack, make sure the wheel chocks are pushed to the inside of the tire so they cannot release from the tire. When I first got the rack I forgot to do that on a quick trip to the beach and when I got home one of the wheel chocks had shifted and wasn't on the tire. This was no fault of the design just something to be aware of. Also, my bike still didn't fall off the rack but it definitely could have.
- Some Amazon reviews mention the directions being hard but I don't remember it being much of a challenge to put together. I think it took me under an hour to assemble.
Verdict
If you're hauling bikes and don't want to pay premium prices, this is a great option.
I'd buy this again. 5/5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
