EGO Power+ 15" String Trimmer (ST1510T) Review: Why I Ditched Gas for Good

I bought the EGO Power+ 15" String Trimmer (model ST1510T) in May 2026, and it has turned edging and weed whacking from a chore I dreaded into something I actually enjoy. Here's my honest review after 5 months of regular use.

Why I Switched From Gas

Before this, I used a gas-powered Ryobi string trimmer, and it was a constant headache:

  • Hard to start
  • Burned through gas fast
  • Required pre-mixed fuel with oil
  • The guard kept coming loose
  • Almost too powerful, flinging dirt, grass, and rocks everywhere
  • Reloading the string was a huge pain

How I Use It

The EGO has the perfect power level for my needs. I use it to:

  • Trim grass in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cut down weeds
  • Edge along the driveway, road, and walkways
  • Clean up around the pool deck

Battery Life and Charging

The battery easily lasts long enough to trim my whole yard multiple times. Batteries charge quickly, fully charged in under an hour. Also, now that I also own an EGO blower, I always have a spare battery with plenty of charge when I need it. EGO Blower review.


POWERLOAD Makes Reloading Easy

One of my favorite features is the POWERLOAD technology. I recently had to add more string for the 1st time and it was incredibly easy. You don't need to remove anything. All you do is feed the string through the 2 holes and pull them so they are equal lengths then push the POWERLOAD button and it loads the string! It was a huge headache to load string on my Ryobi so that is definitely one of my favorite features.

The POWEROLAD feature is 100% worth it

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Right amount of power without flinging debris everywhere
  • Battery easily covers my whole yard, with quick charging
  • No gas, no mixing, no pull-starting
  • POWERLOAD string reloading is effortless
  • Telescopic aluminum shaft adjusts to your height
  • A lot quieter than a gas powered string trimmer

Cons

  • The charger can be finicky, usually because the battery needs to cool down a little before it will charge

Verdict
