Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries Recipe (Easy Oven-Baked)

These baked sweet potato fries get a lil crispier in the oven thanks to a simple cornstarch trick. You can season them simply or dress them up with our Saalf Life House Blend and they are great dipped in homemade Honey Mustard .

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 30–40 minutes | Yield: Serves 3–4

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch strips
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch(helps make them crispier but they are still good without it)
  • 1–2 tbsp Saalf Life House Blend (or the seasoning below if you'd rather keep it simple)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt (omit if using House Blend)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • (Optional)Honey Mustard for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Cut sweet potatoes into even strips, about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Pat the cut fries dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  4. In a large bowl, toss the fries with the cornstarch until evenly coated.
  5. Add olive oil and your seasoning of choice (House Blend or the simple mix). Toss again until evenly coated.
  6. Spread fries in a single layer on the baking sheet, without touching or overlapping.
  7. Bake 20–25 minutes, flip, then bake another 10–15 minutes until edges are crisp and browned.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Cutting the fries into even sizes helps them cook uniformly.
  • Patting the fries dry before tossing is key to crispiness — excess moisture leads to steaming instead of browning.
  • Don't crowd the baking sheet; overlapping fries will steam rather than crisp up.
  • If using foil instead of parchment, lightly grease it first to help prevent sticking.

FAQ

Why does this recipe use cornstarch?
Cornstarch draws out surface moisture and helps create a crispy exterior on the fries, mimicking some of the crunch you'd get from deep frying.

Can I use regular potatoes instead of sweet potatoes?
Yes, though sweet potatoes have more natural sugar, so they brown and caramelize a bit differently than regular potatoes at the same temperature.

Why aren't my sweet potato fries getting crispy?
The most common causes are overcrowding the baking sheet, not patting the fries dry before seasoning, or cutting them too thick.

Can I make these fries ahead of time?
They're best served fresh, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven or air fryer at 375°F for a few minutes to help restore some crispiness.
