Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb boneless chicken breast, cut into tenders
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ancho chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Method

  1. Prep the chicken

Cut the chicken breast into evenly sized tenders so every piece cooks at the same rate.

  2. Toss in oil

Place the tenders in a large bowl and toss with the olive oil until evenly coated — this is what the breadcrumbs will cling to.

  3. Mix the breading

In a shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, smoked paprika, ancho chili powder, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and salt. Stir until the spices are evenly distributed.

  4. Dredge the tenders

Press each oiled tender into the breadcrumb mixture, coating all sides and pressing gently so the crumbs adhere.

  5. Air fry

Arrange the tenders in a single layer in the basket without overlapping, working in batches if needed. Air fry at 400°F for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

  6. Check for doneness

Tenders are done when golden and crisp and an instant-read thermometer in the thickest piece reads 165°F. Goes great with my simple Honey Mustard recipe.

Notes

Cook time shifts with air fryer model and tender thickness — start checking at 15 minutes and pull them the moment they hit 165°F so they don't dry out. For extra crunch, spritz the breaded tenders lightly with cooking spray before frying.
